Savannah Guides

Savannah Guides is a network of professional tour guides with a collective in-depth knowledge of the natural and cultural assets of the tropical savannahs of northern Australia, north Queensland, Northern Territory and the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Savannah Guides Sites and Stations have been developed by privately and publicly owned enterprises and feature nature and/or culture based interpretive activities, while mobile Savannah Guides Operators and Master Operators conduct roving tours within and through the region. All Savannah Guides enterprises must incorporate natural or cultural interpretive activities as a prominent part of their business and demonstrate a commitment to conservation values

Outback Aussie Tours began as a dream. A restless, 21 year-old bush boy who loved the country but did not have the means to set himself up on a property, thrashed out between himself and a whiteboard the things he really loved.

Meeting new people, a challenge, driving around the countryside, an absolute passion for the bush and an attraction to the hospitality industry led him to formulate the idea of a tour company.

Gaining confidence after plying his own home-made questionnaire on unsuspecting fellow patrons of Brisbane's Expo '88, he sold his old utility for a deposit on a vehicle, and Alan Smith's Outback Aussie Tours came into the world.

Originally an eight-seater Toyota Troop Carrier, an answering machine (to take calls while he worked his other jobs), a campoven and a billy, Outback Aussie Tours took paying passengers to a local beauty spot for billy tea and damper on sunrise. The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre had opened just prior and gradually, the fledgling company began to develop.

Eighteen years later and Outback Aussie Tours has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Now a thriving tour company specialising in half and full day tours and complete holiday experiences, Outback Aussie Tours covers the region around Longreach in a three hundred kilometre radius, as well as linking with other Outback tour operators in the marketing and product development arenas.
