Day 1 (D)

Arrive at Longreach via the Spirit of the Outback to meet with your Outback Aussie Tours guide for a tour of the town before checking into your accommodation to enjoy some leisure time before our Longreach Welcome BBQ. Overnight Longreach.

 

Day 2 (B, L, & D)

Discover the challenges of teaching over the airwaves at the Longreach School of the Air. Explore the Australian Agricultural College dedicated to the practical training of people for the rural industry. A tour of the Dr Bruce Yeates Memorial Cottage and RM Williams Heritage Garden’s precedes a visit to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, a fascinating tribute to the pioneering men and women of the Outback. Be intrigued by the stories of the unsung heroes and legends on display here. Return to your motel to relax or spend a little leisure time downtown before visiting the Qantas Founders Museum where you will be enthralled by a Secrets of the 747 tour. Become absorbed in the Australian Aviation story, see the recently acquired Boeing 707. Sunset nibbles and ‘Happy Hour’ drinks under the wing of aviation history set the mood for an enjoyable dinner to conclude an amazing day of pioneering diversity. Overnight Longreach.

 

Day 3 (B, L & D)

Departing for Winton, you will realize the freedom of the vast open plains and Coolibah lined creeks as our journey takes us to a dramatic change of scenery. We embark on the northern remnant of the Gonnaway Plateau and discover Carisbrooke Station’s colourful Cory’s Range, a breathtaking drive featuring a private pristine wilderness experience, with amazing views over 1000sq klms of country.

Reflect on the beauty of the mornings contrasting scenery while enjoying lunch before we head to the eroded edge of the Tully Range journeying into the cretaceous period, a time where dinosaurs ruled. See carefully preserved history at Lark Quarry that is home to more that 3,300 footprints, evidence of a great dinosaur stampede. Mid afternoon we arrive back in Winton to learn of the legend behind the Waltzing Matilda Centre, the only museum in the world dedicated to a song. We return to Longreach late afternoon. Overnight Longreach.

 

Day 4 (B, L & D)

This morning we will experience a contrast in environments as we call at the Longreach Saleyards, one of the largest cattle selling centres in Queensland and also discover the challenges of life on the land as we visit a local property and are able to appreciate the value of generations working together, as a family member speaks of their experiences over smoko. Travelling on to Ilfracombe we retrace the historical stock routes and step back in time to evidence of the Eromanga Sea. Learn the secrets of the of the landscape and township through discoveries at the Folk and Transport Museum and the Wellshot Hotel, more than 110 years old and one of the oldest pubs in Queensland. Returning to Longreach you will have some free time this afternoon to choose your own activity. Maybe you’d like a real gallop through the scrub on the Cobb & Co coach, wander through the Powerhouse Museum, or a scenic helicopter flight may be more to your liking, or perhaps just browse the local shops. Your day concludes with a spectacular sunset cruise and Drover’s Dinner Extravaganza on our timeless waterhole and majestic floodplains as the colours fade into starry outback skies. Sit back and enjoy our talented entertainers as you savour the traditional flavours of our outback cuisine and the fun farewell awards. Overnight Longreach.

This morning an unforgettable journey into the Outer Barcoo on the Shearers Trail. Go off the beaten track, see Clancy's Overflow Hotel and the famous Barcoo River where Banjo Patterson's 'Bush Christening' was written see the newly discovered Isisfordia Duncani a prehistoric crocodile historically linking the dinosaur age to the present day. Visit Australia's largest shearing shed at Isis Downs and learn about the hey day of wool, when Australia rode on the sheep’s back, heightened even further as we visit the Blackall Woolscour, Australia’s only fully restored Woolscour. Blackall among many things is home to Jacky Howe, famous for his incredible shearing record of 321 sheep with blade shears in 1892. Next we arrive in Barcaldine - Garden City of the Outback. Learn the history of the Tree of Knowledge and the 1891 shearers strike. Take in the Award Winning Australian Workers Heritage Centre, set around a billabong with immaculate gardens, celebrating the workers of a great country. Don’t miss the Working Women’s display.
